Inspiration can come from the most surprising of places. In this edited version of a live talk, I share five ways I find inspiration to draw.

I’ve been a supporter of the Brooklyn Art Library (they’re a non-profit that’s creating a library of artists’ sketchbooks) for quite a while now.

Last week they helped me find inspiration through the humble blob. If you’re sometimes stuck for inspiration or something to do, I share five ways that I find ideas:

In summary, here’s 5 tips for finding inspiration:

  1. Take part in a challenge.

2. Use word prompts.

3. Create or use a random shape as the basis of a cartoon drawing.

4. Use a pattern or doodle that repeats and cover the whole area.

5. Give yourself a limit, such as using just two or three colours.
