Brown is a neutral colour. But how do you mix it with paint? Using basic colour theory, you can mix brown without using black.

You can mix brown from equal parts of the three primary colours: yellow, red and blue.

Another way of mixing brown is to combine equal parts of colours that sit on the opposite side of the colour wheel to the primary colour. For example, mix purple with yellow, blue with orange or red with green.

You can experiment with this idea by mixing paint in swatches of colour. What results did you get?
